Salmon Fishing

I’ve never been to Yemen. Oman once, but not the Yemen.

Anyway, went to the pictures tonight and watched “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” with  Ewan McGregor. Well not with him. He was in it. Emily Blunt too.

It bugged me for the whole film, trying to remember what else I’d seen her in. IMDB saved my sanity (well – what’s left of it), and provided the answer: The Adjustment Bureau. As an ex-pat Brit I got to laugh at more of the jokes than the locals, but it’s generally a pretty accessible film, humour-wise. I particularly liked the casual dropping of the phrase “talking bollocks” by the Sheik whilst up to his knees in a Scottish river.

A tale of visionary ideas,  Asperger’s syndrome, fly tying, going against the flow (an excellent scene used in the trailer too), love (of course), being open to theoretical though improbable possibilities and much else besides. Screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (Full Monty127 Hours). He was born in Keighley, which is close to Silsden (centre of the universe), so it had a lot going for it! 🙂

It’s from a book by Paul Torday, and I found it well worth the entrance fee. But that’s just me.
