Geek or Good? (Typographic Chess Set – DesignTAXI.com)

6 10 2012

I’ve seen some interesting chess sets in my time. Made of glass, jade, soapstone.

Carved to represent the traditional shapes, or resin representations of JRR Tolkien‘s Middle Earth, even Star Wars.

This one made me stop though.  I’m not sure about this one. I can’t decide – is it clever or just TOO nerdy? Maybe both!

What do you think, dear reader?

There are some very very clever people in the world.

There are some very idiosyncratic people in the world.

Sometimes they’re the same person.

Meet Martin Hunt a Maths graduate and software engineer (do I hear sighs of “figures”?) from the UK.

His niche in life is making origami models of the various Star Wars objects we all (well some of us) know and love.

Check out his awesome web site Starwarigami.
